Lore & Background

Resta's tenure at Haas began with the 2021 season, a move driven by the deepening technical partnership between Haas and Ferrari. He arrived with a strong pedigree from Scuderia Ferrari, where he had worked from 2001 to 2018 and again from 2019 to 2020, holding roles including senior design engineer, head of the R&D department, deputy chief design director, and chief designer from 2014 to 2018. At Haas, Resta served as technical director, overseeing the team's engineering operations. His time with the team ended in January 2024, coinciding with the departure of team principal Guenther Steiner. On 20 March 2024, Resta was announced as joining Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team as a strategic development director, reuniting him with James Allison, who had been his technical director at Ferrari.

In Their Own Story

Resta's move to Haas in 2021 was a direct result of the team's strategy to tighten its technological relationship with Ferrari. As technical director, he was responsible for the engineering direction of the American outfit during a period of significant regulatory change in Formula 1. His departure in January 2024, alongside Guenther Steiner, marked the end of a chapter for the team. Just two months later, on 20 March, Resta resurfaced at Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team as a strategic development director, a role that saw him work again with James Allison, his former technical director at Ferrari.
